Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
The player's retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five games to go ahead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
